I believe only a few preview screenings and maybe a few early theatrical screenings in the US included the scene, the theatrical release worldwide was edited. I saw a bootleg telecine vhs of Poltergeist when it was first released in the States and as far as I remember that scene was not included. It definitely wasn't on the official vhs / beta Description.
